Curious about IVF costs? This guide breaks down the typical expenses, from standard procedures to common add-ons, helping you understand what to expect.

Welcome! I am Carmela Rea, founder and CEO of EggFund.

My mission in starting EggFund was to help hopeful parents afford to build the families of their dreams. Part of that mission is sharing useful information with you about where family building + financial wellness intersect.  I hope you enjoy this latest post!

There is still so much confusion around what IVF costs include and don’t include.  To help shed some light, we are providing a breakdown of what is entailed in a conventionalIVF procedure, along with a brief explanation of each.  Please note, costs can vary by location, clinic and the individual’s needs.  Take this breakdown as your starting point, and as always ask your provider to give you a detailed estimate of what your procedure will entail.

Also note, there are many people who require additional services to the barebones IVF cycle, and so these numbers can rise easily.

Let’s begin:

Basic IVF Cycle Costs
  • IVF: $10,000 - $15,000
Includes: Monitoring, egg retrieval and anesthesia, fertilization, fresh embryo transfer.
  • Medications: $3,000 - $8,000
Includes: Injectables for ovarian stimulation and medicines for embryo transfer.
Bottom Line: Medication costs can vary and may change during treatment. Most clinics provide a range.
Common Add-On Costs
  • ICSI Fertilization: $1,500
Purpose: Widely used, especially necessary in male-factor infertility.
  • Assisted Hatching: $500 - $1,000
Purpose: A laser helps the embryo hatch from its shell to implant in the uterine wall.
  • Cryopreservation + First-Year Storage: $600/year
Purpose: High-quality embryos from IVF cycles are often cryopreserved for future use.
  • Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT): $5,000
Purpose: Improves success rates by identifying embryos with normal chromosomes or those free of known genetic disorders.
Total Cost for Basic IVF Cycle:

$20,000 - $30,000

Big Picture

The average fertility patient undergoes more than two cycles, bringing the total cost per patient to $40,000 - $60,000.
